Overwatch Contenders Series Adds 7 New CountriesIt consists of seven areas, some of which are home to Overwatch League Academy teams. Blizzard recently announced that it’s expanding the Overwatch Contenders application to seven new countries in its upcoming competitive season. National and legal residents of Bahrain, Egypt, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE are currently eligible to play in Overwatch Contenders, the company said.
“Particular for this upcoming season, all Contenders teams will be restricted to a max of three non-resident players on their roster,” a prepared statement from Blizzard reads. “This implies that teams from Bahrain, Egypt, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates can have varied nationalities and skillsets in their compositions. Middle East teams will have to be eligible for Contenders by playing through the European Open Division then through its dedicated promotion-relegation tournament known as Contenders Trials.”

While Overwatch continues to be popular in markets Blizzard is traditionally strong in this as North America, South Korea, and Europe, it’s interesting to realize that the game has caught on in the Middle East in a huge manner with a vibrant community teeming with semi-professional teams and local contests. With Overwatch Contenders expanding to the Middle East we hope its next port of call is India and its neighboring lands, more so when you believe that the game has seen a push from the likes of Nvidia previously .

Recently, Overwatch was in the information with the addition of a new hero Ashe. She is the 29th hero at the sport and if you believed Blizzard intended on slowing down, you couldn’t be farther from the reality. Overwatch Production Director Chacko Sonny told Gadgets 360 there are far more in the works.

“There are five or even six different hero prototypes being worked on at any given time,” he said. “Many are driven by notions like’this could be a fantastic complement to this class’ and sometimes its driven with a cool sketch which we want to become [a hero]. I don’t want to exhibit a picture that they’re all derived in precisely the exact same way. The inspiration comes from many different areas and there is a lot discussion at the time, figuring out exactly what the next hero is and what is the right thing for the game at the point in time.”
