Apple Was granted a patent Which describes a new technology Which Will allow the iPhone Manufacturer to Add an in-display fingerprint sensor on its smartphones.
The patent, which is titled”Methods of biometric imaging of input “, was filed by the company back in 2016 and has only been approved by the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The patent refers to the organization’s invention around acoustic imaging system. It is unclear if the company will really use the technologies in a commercially available apparatus as since 2016, Apple has moved its focus to Face ID rather than Touch ID.
The acoustic imaging system described from the new Apple patent includes a pair of acoustic transducers that can convert mechanical energy to electric sign or vice versa. All these transducers are going to be able to discover and convert the mechanical wave created by anything placed on the screen, including a fingerprint, into an electrical signal. This sign would then be reconstructed into a picture of the fingerprint for authentication. Apple’s implementation is extremely different from the current crop of in-display fingerprint detectors.
The technical details of Apple’s execution can be found at the patent application on USPTO website(the connection wasn’t available at the time of book ). The patent was first spotted from Patently Apple.
As we mentioned earlier, it’s uncertain if we’ll ever see the technology’s implementation in Apple iPhone or even iPad models, but it could certainly enable the business in bringing some fresh and interesting features of its apparatus.
